A DIY HOW-TO ON PICKLED RED ONION
INGREDIENTS
- 1 - 1/4 CUP WHITE VINIGER
- 1 CUP WATER
- 1 RED ONION
- 1 TABLESPOON SEA SALT
- 1 TABLESPOON GRANULATED SUGAR
- 1/4 TEASPOON CRUSHED RED PEPPER FLAKES
- 1/4 MUSTARD SEEDS
- 1/8 TEASPOON CUMIN SEEDS
- 1/2 BAY LEAF
INSTRUCTIONS
- Once all ingrediants have been gathered start by combining the vinegar, sugar and salt in a large saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil; reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes.
- Begin packing the sliced red onion pieces into a sterilized jar leaving 1/2 inch of headspace. Add the bay leaf, red pepper, mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
- Once jar is fully packed with red onion, bay leaf, red pepper, mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Use a ladle to pour the vinegar into the jar, leaving 1/2-inch of headspace. Remove air bubbles, clean the jar rim, and finish by tightening the lid onto the jar.
- Seal jar for a longer shelf life or store in refrigerator for up to 4 months
